Bass Drum Lifts?

I tried the Gibralter on my 18" kick and didn't like it. My DW beater didn't hit the head as flat as I wanted it to. I ended up building a riser piece I attached directly to the hoop & routed out a space so my pedal wouldn't get stuck. I built my drums, so I didn't feel bad experimenting with 'em. It didn't come out as the straightest attachment, but it works.

Gadd has a riser kind of like it on his 20" kick.

The DW takes some time to get set right but once you get it set, tighten the thumbscrews down it's very solid. I use it on my Gretsch Catalina (18")from the Club Roll kit with the beater slightly below center and this drum just kills.

I agree, a lift on a 20" doesn't make sense. I have an old Camco kit with a 20" that also kills. The beater hits just a bit above center on that one.

The other option is to lower the beater. For an 18" kick, I've sawed off the lower part of the beater shaft and left the kick on the floor. It worked well.
